Wire(s) in the walls, lid and (occasionally) floor of a kiln that produce heat.  They are typically cold (like a very long spring) to maximum the length and and produce maximum heat.

Never touch the elements of you kiln while it is plugged in.  Doing so can not only result in severe burns but also electrocution.
