If I’m correctly discerning your “up and down” from your “in and out”…
have you tried grinding out”grooves” with a regular glass grinder or even cutting them out with a ring saw? Then your slumping will provide the needed “up and down”…if I’m getting this right?

While I am by far an expert, I have a few firings under my belt. My molds are all BE (I used a cheap nock off one once and was sorry with the results) and worth their weight in gold. Boyce Lundstrom has two fabulous books on inclusions, both of which I find invaluable. Also I have worked with his enamals, which were wonderful to use. I am by no means an expert on any use of gold accent. That said, I’ve experimented with putting LAYERS of 24 carat gold foil (4 layers to really have it show up well) in a vary small areas where the definition border does not have to be exact. I totally agree with Paul, who has said it best. But to me, most jewelry seems to exist for the purpose of being a piece of jewelry while it’s easier for me to see a larger piece of glass, designed to test the possibiities of the medium and the imagination of the artist, as “art”.
