Why is my thin fire burning? After about 1/2 hour in the kiln the paper turns brown and starts smoking. This has happened 2 times.

I have used this kiln many times with no problems, always with thin fire. It is a used kiln and the kiln shelf looks like it has shelf primer on it. The kiln shelf looks in good shape, although it now has brown residue on it.

    Thanks for your help

You’ve probably never noticed it before but it’s normal for Thinfire to turn brown and smoke a bit as the binders are burning out. It will go white again after that happens.

When I first started fusing I used some shelf paper that smoked and really smelled bad as it turned brown and burned of the binders. I use bullseye thinfire now and it doesn’t smell but yes it does turn brown before it goes white again – no brown resdue though.

I tried again and it worked fine. Learn something new every day!
