I found some unusual pieces of kiln furniture in the bottom of a used (paragon) glass kiln I bought. They are 4 pieces of the same material as kiln shelves are made of.

Each piece is 4 inches long, 3/4 inch wide, and about 1/2 inch high. Then, there are 15 pins/nails sticking out of it, the pointy ends so it is sharp and spikey.

Other than these 4 pieces, the only other thing in the bottom of the kiln was a kiln shelf.

Any ideas on what this might be.

(I have picture but I am not sure how to attach in this forum.)

Those are for firing glased pottery.  They come in all sizes and shapes — straight, square, triangular.  The metal points  (facing up) keep the bottom of the piece off the kiln shelf so the glaze doesn’t fasten the piece to the shelf.  Fairly useless for glass firing.
