ParticipantI need to get some new kiln shelves. And weight is a major factor J I have been reading about the nitride coated silicon carbide shelves. Does anyone have any experience with these in a glass kiln?
Any suggestions? Advice? What about the IPS (Dyson?) shelves? Where can I get them?
Thanks
Linda

ParticipantYou don’t say what size shelf you need. Would 25 mm fibre board work? It is light, can be used rigidised or un-treated, it is usually better in small kilns (under 1 metre square).

ParticipantI just invested in a CoreLite kiln shelf – 16″ round, which I intend to use for the top shelf for kiln pressed glass. See info at:

and I’m sure they’re available lots of other places. It’s just like a normal kiln shelf, only a lot lighter, and because of the air channels it heats a lot more evenly.

ParticipantYou’re right and I should have. It is for a Skutt GM1414 but I don’t need it to span the kiln. I do, however, need it to withstand pot melts.
