I need to use some type of insulation outside of my kiln to shield the window and cabinet adjacent to the kiln. I can just prop it up when using or opening the kiln to protect the areas from the heat. Celetex board was recommended. Anyone have any other recommendations or ideas?

Shielding the surrounding area of the kiln is not usually necessary if kept ca. 12 inches from other things.  However, if you wish, you can use ceraboard (a trade name for fibre board) armstrong ceiling tiles or any other inuslating or refractory board.

I ended up buying a 1/2″ cement board that would shield surfaces near a pot-bellied stove. My concern is thermal shock to the window and the thermal-wraped cabinets nearby the kiln. I occasionally want to work the glass (comb) or spill out the hot air to crash cool, thus the concern.
