ParticipantI was not thinking, blame it on my streep throat. I filled my new tile mold with frit and fired it then realized when I got it out of the kiln this morning I forgot to coat the mold with release. Is there anything I can do to save the mold or have I just wasted $30?
thanks
Lisa

ParticipantPut the whole back in the kiln, supported on posts, fibre paper, or similar. Take the temperature up slowly to around 677C and the glass should drop off onto the shelf. If it hasn’t by the time you get to 677C, extend the soak.

InactiveInverting the mold and reheating may get the bulk of the glass out but it won’t probably leave the surface clean – think about pouring honey out of a cup – there is always some left.
Do you have access to a sandblaster? You may be able to clean out the last of it that way.

ParticipantThank you both, my husband had suggested something similar. I have already run it through twice upside down. The first time I did not take the kiln up hot enough, the second time got 3/4 of the material, so I am trying again.
No sandblaster Paul, guess I will need to come in for coldwork studio time.
