Would there be any negatives to using a glazed ceramic tile as a kiln shelf?

Either applying kiln wash and/or shelf paper to the tile.

Seems an economical way to fuse smaller objects.

    Thanks in advance.

I’m no expert but the word ‘glazed’ makes me think your tile will have a glass surface that will melt in the kiln.

You could sand/sandblast the glaze completely off.

Another option is to use pizza stones.

You can buy unglazed tiles. They are cheap and come in a variety of sizes.

I use them on top of a kiln shelf, I’ve never tried to use them without one.

I think if you use kiln wash, or thin fire paper you should be ok. You can also grind off the glaze with a dremel.
