ParticipantGlass Clay is a mix of powdered glass frit with a mixing medium based on CMC and several other modifiers. The COE is based on the COE of the powder used to make it.
I teach a course on Glass Clay. the first hour is how to make it. The next 12 hours is on how to use it. It is a lot of fun (like playing with clay) and creates some beautiful elements to use on your glass.
I have a page dedicated to glass clay on my site. The only problem is that it is difficult to get the 3d effect of glass clay elements in photographs. All the pieces on that page are 3D.

ParticipantThanks for the quick reply. I would love to take one of your classes however I am in Iowa. I appreciate all your help but am really just looking for a recipe. I know the partial recipe is powder frit and CMC but is it distilled water that is used to make the clay? I know with CMC it can spoil if not used in a certain amount of time after being mixed, is this true for the clay? Do you mix the CMC with the distilled water first and then add the frit or does it make a difference? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

ParticipantKaren,
I get mine at Axner Pottery. Most Pottery supply houses carry it.

ParticipantYour server authorization and permissions are messed up. Even with name and password, the server keeps asking for the logon information about 3 times and then goes to a blank page.

ParticipantI was finally able to make glass clay. Mixed CMC with clear powder frit, gold mica powder and water. Formed a silly face, gave him blue glass eyes, red glass mouth, copper wire hair and a “diamond” dichroic earring and was fired in a ceramic kiln. He lost his ears in the firing but otherwise came out just fine. Can you tell I’m very excited? Can’t wait to do more!!!
