I know that it is not the best idea to fuse glass in a ceramic kiln – my question is this – can you fire ceramics in a glass kiln?

I have just entered the realm of glass fusing and am enjoying it very much.  I am also a novice potter.  If/When I invest in a kiln, I would like to be able to use it for both mediums.  Any thoughts?

    Glass:

    • Top temperature usually 1700 F (927 C)
    • Most important elements are in the lid
    • Controller is critical (or close to it)
    • Always electric

    Ceramic:

    • Top temperature usually 2300 F (1260 C)
    • No lid elements
    • Controller optional
    • Electric or gas

You can buy an electric kiln that does both – has the top temp of a ceramic kiln, has top elements, and has a controller.  If you go this route make sure to use separate shelves for ceramic vs. glass firings.
