In my experience, it is difficult to fuse two pieces back together and not be able to see the seam from the break. Trying to fuse the two pieces as a single layer will result in the two pieces pulling away from each other — they need to be on a base layer of glass (remember that glass wants to be 1/4″ thick and “bead up”, much like liquid on a smooth solid surface). Your best bet is to assemble the pieces and try to control the ‘spread” by damming the entire project. You can do this with strips of fiber paper around the edges, with the fiber held in place with stainless dressmaker’s pins (just make sure the pins don’t touch the glass)
