Fibre Board kiln shelves

Some characteristics of fibre board as they come to me:
Light weight
Might need hardening
can’t be scraped clean of batt wash
need sanding for really smooth surface (or smoothing on something like batt wash or alumina hydrate)
Can warp over time even when supported every 100 mm
Will warp over time when placed on the kiln floor
Needs to be thick – at least 25mm
Possibly not much cheaper than mullite shelves
Fragile, but with care can last years
Need to use dust masks when ever working with fibre board
Good cooling characteristics as it doesn’ hold the heat the same way a mullite shelf does
There will be other things about the characteristics of fiber boards that others may add.
