thermal shock

thermal shock

Glass breakage caused by uneven heating or cooling of glass.

Glass, like all materials, expands when heated and contracts when cooled.

Since glass cannot stretch, excessive uneven temperature changes can cause one part of the glass to tear itself from the rest -resulting in breakage called thermal shock.
